In Miami, you can’t go wrong with a beautiful, modern salon.
But what you may not know is that you can find the perfect place to go for a haircut.
We spoke to several locals to find out what they liked about the area, and how they find their style.
The locals are on your side.
A few locals who’ve been to Miami’s black hairdressers and stylists over the years said the hair salon culture in Miami is very unique.
“It’s very local, it’s very hipster,” said local tattoo artist David Withers.
“There are a lot of older guys who work there.
They’re not really into a lot more formal, more flashy, more fancy things.
They really are into what’s trendy.”
Hair stylists are locals.
Wither says that, “Miami is very young and not really hipster at the moment.
People are just more into being authentic.”
Haircuts are very personal.
“When you come in and do your hair, you feel like you’re going out to a barber shop,” said salon owner and stylist David Gannon.
“You’re looking for the right touch.
You’re looking to make sure your hair is natural.
You want to feel confident and like you belong there.”
Hair cuts are quick.
“A lot of people come in, and you feel a bit like, ‘oh, I’m going to wait around for a minute,'” said salon stylist and tattoo artist Dan Breslin.
“The waiters just go, ‘okay, come in for a quick cut.'”
Hair can be tailored to suit your personality.
Bresling says that “there are people who have very strong personalities.
They come in with a lot to say.
They want to be their own person.”
Hair is a good investment.
“If you want to make a really good hairpiece, you should buy a hair stylist who’s very experienced,” said stylist Ben Gannon, adding that “people who work here are very good at it.”
There are lots of local artists.
“People like the feel of Miami, they like the vibrancy of the city, the diversity,” said Bresler.
“That’s a really great thing.”
The waiters don’t make a lot.
“I would say the waiters are very experienced, very experienced in the salon,” said Wither.
“They do really good service.”
There’s a lot going on around you.
“My hair is really different from the people who come in here,” said Gannon of his hair stylists.
“Sometimes it’s hard to understand where the stylists come from, but if you look, they’re all people who came here before me.”
The barbershop is very professional.
“What you see is what you get,” said David Withering.
“Some people will come in knowing that they have to be good, but they will be really good.”
“If a stylist does a good job and it doesn’t show, they will make you feel very comfortable,” said the stylist.
There is a lot in the area.
“We’re very close to the beach,” said Dan Bredes, who says that he has visited the salon twice a week for almost 20 years.
“But if you’re in Miami, we’ll be right around the corner.”
“People go for the beauty of it, not necessarily the money,” said Mr. Bredese.
“And they don’t really have to make it to the top.
If they’re looking after themselves, they don, either.”
“You can tell that the people here really care,” said Ms. Withering, who added that she likes to go back to the barbers.
“For me, I want to go to a salon like this.
It feels like home.”
Miami is really welcoming.
“One of the things I really love about Miami is how open and accepting everybody is,” said Adam Kranz, a hairstylist and stylistician.
“So you’re not going to feel like a stranger.
There aren’t any strangers around.”
Hair styles are available online.
“To get a really nice haircut, you need to go online,” said Kranzer.
“Because the stylista can do it online.
It’s just a matter of getting there, and being there.”
Haircutters are also open to seeing people.
“Once you have your haircut, it’ll be like, ok, I don’t want to see you again.
That’s a little bit like being a celebrity,” said Tanya Tannenbaum, who works at a salon in the same building as Ms. Tanno’s.
“She’s like, I know, I’ve
